Humanity;

Something I’ve been thinking quite a bit about recently. How we grow as a collective. What “human nature” even means. What it means that God came to man, through man. Maybe where we meet the Infinite is in the finite? Maybe where we see Strength is in our weakness and vulnerabilities? Jesus chose to come us in our humanity.

Through the whole old testament we see this pattern of man never being able to touch God. God is too holy. Man, is too sinful. Then, God comes to us, needing to be touched by man to be sustained. He came in vulnerability and dependency. Then throughout the new testament we see Jesus always physically present. Not afraid to touch them, touch us, no matter the disease or sin. The Infinite and the finite collide and there’s a deep holiness that comes forth.

Jesus’s humility and vulnerability of His humanity is where I’ve learned to trust Him the most. He’s not unacquainted with limitation or loss. God is not far off. Rather, He’s quite near. I would not be surprised if He reveals Himself to you even in the simplicity of your breath. Elohim, Creator God, pulsing through your veins.

I think my favorite set of verses in the year of 2020 would be Acts 17:24-28. Paul shows up in a place called Athens. He was grieved over the idols in this city. So, He preaches the Gospel. The resurrection of Christ. The people of Athens were curious, so they asked for more. This is some of what Paul said;

“The true God is the Creator of all things. He is the owner and Lord of the heavenly realm and the earthly realm, and He doesn’t live in man made temples. He supplies life and breath to all things, to every living being. He doesn’t lack a thing that we mortals could supply for Him, for He has all things and everything He needs. From one man, Adam, He made every man and woman and every race of humanity, and He spreads us all over the earth. He sets the boundaries of people and nations, determining their appointed time and history. He has done this so that every person would long for God, feel their way to Him, and find Him – for he is the God that is easy to discover! It is through him that we live and function and have our identity; just as your own poets have said, “our lineage comes from Him.”

I hope you find Him in your longing. I leave this with you to contemplate. I’ve been meditating and asking questions on the humanity of Jesus, this is what I’ve found it my heart. I hope you’re encouraged. I hope you come to Him in wonder at the mystery.

Victory.

breathing,

pulsing.

It’s near.

Beauty dazzling

Strength irrefutable

my heart raced

i sat still

somber and elated

perhaps being amongst this

Undesecrated Beauty

omnipresent as all the things i’d been skeptical about

seeing Him, actually seeing Him

i could clearly imagine walking across

the clearing

the open

the wilderness,

walking over the mountains

and into the trees

i’m more alive to my senses than ever

undesecrated,

meant i too could be.

the wilderness held a clarity

regardless of what i didn’t know.

and follow it,

i’d be delivered

As you may or may not know, I’m still fundraising to go to Guatemala. I’ve only got $425 left! I would love if you would consider partnering with me financially, and of course prayerfully as well. I’m excited and grateful at the opportunity to lead and teach Gen Z. I believe we have a generation of passion and love on the rise. Revival of hearts we will see. If you’d like to donate, the button is right up there at the top! Or you can venmo me. @Alyssa-Hammett
