This is Boulders. They’re my other incredible team that I’ve gotten to lead these few months. Here we’ve got Hannah, Mady, Mac, Nicole, Erika, Maggie, and Lucy. They’re a group of women who seek boldly seek Kingdom and growth.
Days with them have been a whole lot of fun. They usually look like waking up for breakfast and devos, then dippin’ out real quick to catch the bus to Chimaltenango. We leave usually around 8:45 and then get to Bola De Oro right around 10. We walk up to Josephina’s house and almost always there’s some kids waiting for us to show up. They get to teach a morning class from 10-11:30, then we have lunch and do house visits from 11:30-1:30, and after house visits and all there’s an afternoon class that they teach until 3. The subject for the classes are different everyday. Monday is english, Tuesday is art, Wednesday is discipleship, and Friday is sports. The kids really love Boulders a whole lot because of how they’ve invested in them so much. Boulders love these kids deeply. You can see the excitement in the kids’ eyes when they see them.
The kids that come to the class range in ages of anywhere between 4 and 15. Class usually starts with Mac doing her wild reviews for english. We scream head, shoulders, knees, and toes or shout out different english words. Mac loves to get them hype. Then whoever was the one who prepared the lesson teaches it. Wednesday was Mac and Hannah’s day so they went ahead and showed the Jesus Film to the kids. The Jesus Film is a cool thing. It’s Jesus’ life in movie form translated into a whole lot of different languages around the world, Spanish being one of them. A day last week I got to teach English with Nicole, so she did some stellar lesson planning and then we taught the kids all about weather. They soak all the information in, they’re incredibly smart kids.
Being able to teach the kids has also opened up a whole lot of opportunity to invest in families in the village as well, as we’ll usually go to some of the kids’ houses. House visits with Boulders usually consist of a walk through the village, up some hills, and through a field to get to wherever we’re being lead to. We get to talk to the family and ask them questions about their life. We’ve had a lot of really cool house visits but my favorite one so far is when we just walked right down the street to house where a woman named Jacquline lives. She’s only 24 but has one of the most faithful and steadfast relationships with the Lord I’ve ever seen. She lost her little girl 2 years ago and isn’t able to have kids anymore. But man, this woman. Her perspective was insane. We were talking to her about everything that had happened and she told us while she’s deeply sad that what happened did, she was grateful for it, because of what Jesus has done through it. She had her eyes fixed straight on the Lord and all she could see was His goodness. What a faithful woman. Most of us would have questioned God like crazy, but not Jacqueline, she praised Him and thanked Him. What a gal.
Here’s a cool thing about Boulders. They don’t settle for anything. So when they heard that Jacqueline couldn’t have kids they we’re like “no no, that ain’t happening around here.” So we got to pray over her, that she would become pregnant. We have full faith that she will, and so does she. The Lord is definitely going to reward her for her faithfulness. She’ll get to have a kid of her own, and not just one but three. We’re believing in it.
There’s been multiple times where Boulders doesn’t settle for what is presented in front of them. A woman who had a stroke and can’t walk? No no, they prayed for healing for her. She stood up and walked. A man who was in an accident therefore one leg was longer than the other? Nope, they don’t take that. His legs are the same length now. A drunk man who doesn’t know the Lord? He knows Him and is sober. A woman with severely advanced blood cancer and couldn’t get out of bed? She’s out of bed walking. Praise God y’all. Praise God for a group of women seeking wholeheartedly after Kingdom. They know what’s in Heaven so they bring it to earth.
I’m incredibly thankful for these women who love to have fun and who love to build relationship. There’s none quite like them let me tell ya. This morning we had a dance party right outside our room and it really got the vibe flowin’ for our Friday. Watching them invest in the kids, the families, and also the ministry hosts have been so fun. I can be certain that they’ve done good things and that fruit will be produced because of how faithful they’ve been to the Lord and what He’s asked them to do. Thanks Jesus for Boulders!!
Alys, Thanks be to God for you sweet Angels. Rolling right along & sharing Jesus love with the children who feel pure joy when they see all of you. Love grandma
