Wonder is a Highway

i can feel the roots of contentment grow down into my soul. my heart is postured towards Him in complete awe and wonder. He meets me in the depths of who I am. He is my safe place. I praise Him without any words, simply with every breathe I take. in and out I will exalt Him with every one. with the wind through the trees and the ripples through the water. with the sun rising above the horizon and the birds soaring through the sky. with the laughter coming from beautiful souls.

i’ve discovered that wonder is a highway straight to the Father’s character and straight to His heart. wonder in the sense of curiosity and also in the sense of awe and admiration. we have the Truth that we’ve been given and within that there’s a whole world to be explored. a life without wonder is a life that is dull. without it you’d be numb to the world you have so purposefully been placed in, numb to the beautiful people you are surrounded by, and numb to the very One who created You. wonder invites us to wake up to the Spirit within us.

engage with the senses that God so graciously gave you. explore the depths. there’s more to be discovered.

a few weeks ago we went to the beach. we were eating at a restaurant during golden hour and as the sky began to change colors we made our way to the shore to watch this stellar of a sunset. our feet sank into the soft sand and our eyes immediately lifted to the vibrant blue sky with oranges and pinks throughout it. I was standing next to Mady, one of the girls on my teams, and she told me she wishes she could take picture of the sunset. she couldn’t cause a couple weeks prior her phone was sneakily and savagely pick-pocketed on a chicken bus in Antigua. So I said “Mads, don’t worry about a thing, we’ll just take a mental picture.” A mental picture is basically when you just take in everything single thing surrounding you as well as what you’re feeling. you just capture the experience you’re living in. we saw the mist come off the ocean as the waves would crash. the big fluffy clouds that would start to turn a soft pink and orange. the locals in front of us who were laughing in the golden light. one of them even did a backflip. we were surrounded by our friends who were also capturing the sunset in their own individualistic ways. the sun appeared from beneath the clouds and it looked like a big orange ball on fire. it looked as if the sun was sinking into the ocean. you could see the waves roll through it. as we watched the last bit of the sun go down you could see the smoke from houses rise as people prepared dinner for their family. laughs were heard and life was felt. we watched the last bit of the sun go behind the ocean and as it did i let out a deep breath. my way of thanking Jesus. exhaling praise in complete awe in wonder.

take in what’s around you. it’ll root you in contentment. it’ll take you to the Father.
